Church

Sunday, May 1
Rachel goes to Chesie's church, Pentecostal I think, near Chesie's house. Worship starts at 9:00. We got there a little late, but pretty soon they brought in a bench and put it between the first bench and the adult choir. That was for us - the visitors. Nothing like being on stage!
Lots of singing - youth choir, children's choir, and two adult choirs. Each one sang at least two songs.
The minister never preached but instead three others preached. Obviously, we couldn't understand a thing.
They had two offerings. Don't know why. During the second one, cassava leaves were brought forward along with sweet potatoes and other vegetables. Towards the end of the service, all those veggies were auctioned off. Being able to bring produce like that allows those who do not have cash to be able to contribute to the church. Great idea.
Three hours + wooden benches = very tired body!!
Afternoon was very low key.
Katherine and I washed more clothes. It takes about 24 hours for clothes to dry so you really have to think ahead.
She and I also fixed dinner mostly with food that we had brought. R had a cabbage so we cooked that with carrots and onions.

We are here in the rainy season. We have had rain almost every day in the afternoon. It doesn't usually last very long. K and I were smart enough today to put out a basin to catch water which we used in washing clothes.
Generally, after the rain it gets cool. I never thought of cool and Rwanda, but it's true. Even K was wrapped in a light blanket after dinner. R was freezing.
