Left Rachel's house around 10:00 to walk to Kayenzi which takes us flatlanders about an hour. Off to Musanze where the volcanos and gorillas are. To get there we took a twege to Kigali. Slow twege plus it took an hour to have enough people for the twege to leave.
I packed clothes for 5 days in my backpack. Joe and Katherine packed some of their clothes in their backpacks, and Rachel brought her big pack for overflow.
In Kigali we ate at Simba Cafe again. Good sandwich. We are in a hurry to catch the 4:00 bus.
We got good seats on the bus. The guy beside me could speak decent English and tried several times to convince me to sponsor him in school. I didn't take the bait.
Took about 2 hours to get to Musanze where we were met at the bus station by a couple of men who drove us to Villa Gorilla to spend the night.
When we arrived we were met with warm wash cloths to wash our hands and face. Ginger tea was served next as the manager told us the procedures. We made our dinner selections.
The staff took us to our rooms which are little cottages with a king size bed in each one. On the bed was "WELCOME" spelled out in flowers along with an arrangement of fresh flowers on a table runner. Under the covers were two hot water bottles to keep us warm.
We were shown outside where the staff had built a fire and a group of young people were doing some native singing and dancing. At one point, they came and asked us to dance with them. We were served hot black tea during the dance.
After the dance, we had dinner. Huge amounts. We started with a wonderful cauliflower soup, roll, and butter. For the main course I had fish, fries, rice, broccoli and carrots. Joe and Rachel had curried lamb. Katherine had a pasta dish. Excellent!! For dessert, the girls and I had warmed banana with a honey sauce. Since Joe is allergic to bananas, they served him a huge slice of pineapple with passion fruit on top.
