Futball and Party

Monday, May 2
Today is a national holiday - Labor Day. The Health Center staff and the staff of a school were to play a futball game. Rachel was asked to play which is almost unheard of. Females do not play soccer here.
As the Health Center team was warming, the guys were joking that they had the international team. When the school team showed up, they said, "This is not fair. This is not an international game." Rachel said that she can converse more with the teachers because they teach English while only some of the health center guys speak English.

The field was on a flat place at the top of the hill sort of like a plateau. You have to have a second ball ready at all times because the ball was kicked off the flat area several times.
We have seen some terrible soccer fields over the years but this one wins for the worst. The field had "grass" that was a foot high. Then the area in front of one goal was like clay gravel. While playing offense, R was knocked down in that area. She skinned her knee, elbows, and palms. I had to go back to her house to get her Peace Corps medical kit so she could clean her knee.
The Health Center lost 2-4.
The game was supposed to start at 10:00 but with Rwandan time it started at 11:00.
The Health Center staff was having a party at 2:00 to celebrate Labor Day and to reveal what we would call Secret Santa. Well, that was Rwandan time too. Started after 4 - closer to 5.
We were given VIP seats up front. A meal of meat, fries, a mixture of pasta/green beans/mayonnaise (it was very good), and pineapple was served. Another good meal.

Following the meal there was time for dancing and then exchanging of gifts to reveal the "Secret Santas." Fun time.
